Film Synopsis

Between 1879 and 1920, over 60,000 Indians were taken from Kolkata to Fiji under the British indenture system, deceived by false promises of a better life. What awaited them in Fiji was 41 years of relentless labour in sugarcane fields, violence, and dehumanisation under colonial rule. Women suffered disproportionately, newborns perished due to neglect, and suicides among the Girmitiyas reached some of the world's highest rates. The film recovers the silenced voices of a generation stripped of dignity.
