Film Synopsis

Born into a lower-caste fishermen's community, Rani Rashmoni marries into a zamindar family and devotes herself to the welfare of the poor, commissioning celebrated ghats along the Hooghly river in Kolkata and providing drinking water infrastructure for communities in need. Alongside Ishwara Chandra Vidyasagar, she co-proposes bills against polygamy, Sati, and child marriage, and takes on the East India Company over its taxation of poor Hooghly fishermen, outmanoeuvring a colonial authority at the height of its power.
