The director and DOP of ‘My Mercury’ discuss the issues brought into focus by this eco-psychological tale about a passionate conservationist who makes a cruel pact to save endangered seabirds from extinction on an inhospitable island, alone. Apart from describing the magnetic and metaphoric power of the story of Yves’ Mercury, and her thirty-year commitment to tell it, Director Joëlle Chesselet will bring the audience up to the present to illustrate the absolute reality of species’ extinction and the necessity of heeding warnings to prevent the further decline of the seabird populations of the South Atlantic. DOP Lloyd Ross will speak about the exhilarating challenge of filming, what Joëlle’s brother called “The holy mountain in the sea”.
